Traffic Case Records in Lawrence County
Traffic cases belong to the court that issued them. There is no single county portal. Lawrence County Municipal Court handles its territory through CaseLook plus its own payment route, while Ironton Municipal Court runs a separate CaseLook and payment system. Coal Grove, South Point, and Chesapeake mayor's courts each use a court-specific OhioTicketPayments docket search. Proctorville, Athalia, and Hanging Rock post no confirmed public docket URL, so for those villages the citation-named court and its phone line are the fallback. Juvenile traffic goes through the Juvenile Court channel, and confidentiality rules apply there.
A local traffic case record may list the citation or case number, the charge, each setting, a plea or finding, the disposition, fines, costs, payments, and the balance. In short, it is the court file for the citation.
Lawrence County Ticket Court Routes
Read the citation first, then pick the court before any search. County Municipal sits at 10916 County Road 1 in Chesapeake, (740) 867-3127. Ironton Municipal is at 301 S. 3rd Street, Ironton, (740) 532-3062. Coal Grove Mayor's Court is (740) 532-8921. Juvenile is (740) 533-4372. A Chesapeake mailing address alone does not settle the question. The village mayor's court and Lawrence County Municipal Court are separate channels.
When a village citation has no public portal, call the named court. Give the citation number. Also, never assume a county municipal search will pull in a mayor's-court case.
Lawrence County Traffic Ticket Lookups
The working online routes are three: Lawrence County Municipal CaseLook, Ironton CaseLook, and the named Coal Grove, South Point, or Chesapeake mayor's-court docket search. Enter the right court's search fields. If a citation has not posted or a date needs confirming, call or visit that court's clerk.
- Read the court name, citation number, and printed appearance date on the ticket.
- Use that court's CaseLook or mayor's-court docket search by citation, case number, name, or date where offered.
- Record the case number, current date, and status from the result.
- Call the court or visit the counter for a new citation, a missing result, or a question about the current setting.
- Use the citation and court directly when no official public portal was confirmed.
Lawrence County Coal Grove Ticket Search
Coal Grove's official vendor docket is the most detailed local mayor's-court traffic search. It takes a name, case number, ticket number, case type, date of offense, or court date. Results show last name, first name, and ticket number. They also give offense date, case number, case type, and court date. Coverage runs for filings on or after September 5, 2006. The display includes a last-uploaded time.
| Field | Type | Required | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| First and last name | Text | Unspecified | Paired name search. |
| Case or ticket number | Text | Unspecified | Direct citation or case lookup. |
| Case type | Menu | Unspecified | Portal option list is not exposed in static review. |
| Offense or court date | Date | Optional or unspecified | Each has a Clear Date control. |
Traffic Court Dates in Lawrence County
The citation itself is the first source for a court date. A local record can add the date, time, hearing type, status, and later docket entries. Municipal CaseLook portals post a caution. A filing or judicial action may take at least 24 hours to appear. So when a date is near or a reset seems possible, call the named court.
| Citation number | Keep the ticket identifier and any court-assigned YYCCNNNNNN-style local case number together. |
|---|---|
| Court | The municipal, mayor's, or Juvenile court identified by the ticket. |
| Date and time | The listed appearance or other setting, confirmed with the court when current. |
| Setting type | Event label shown in the citation or docket record. |
| Status | Current portal label, which may lag a recent court action. |
Lawrence County Ironton Payment Rules
Ironton's Traffic Violations Bureau rules allow an eligible citation to be paid in person, by phone, by mail, or online before the court date and time shown on the citation or record search. A waiver payment must be paid in full. The court's payment page states that an online payment is a guilty plea, waives appearance and trial, and closes the case once processed. It also notes the record updates every 24 hours.
Not every citation qualifies. The page lists appearance examples: felony or indictable offenses, OVI, leaving the scene, most suspended or unlicensed driving, third moving violations within 12 months other than speeding, fleeing, drag racing, physical control, illegal plates, 100-plus mph, passing a school bus, some railroad violations, reckless operation, and overload violations. The court decides eligibility.
Paying a Ticket vs Fighting It
The right move depends on the court's eligibility rules and the date on the citation. The online payment channel is not a neutral record lookup. For an eligible Ironton waiver, it carries the plea and appearance-waiver consequences that court states. Anyone who must appear should follow the citation and the court's instructions rather than attempt an online waiver payment.
| Eligible payment | Court appearance route |
|---|---|
| Full payment before the citation's court date and time. | Follow the citation and court instructions for the required setting. |
| Ironton says online payment is a guilty plea and waives appearance and trial. | Use the court for an appearance-required citation or a payment-ineligible case. |
| Available in person, phone, mail, or online when the court permits it. | Confirm the court date and current status directly with the named court. |
Missed date: Ironton says a person who missed a date should check status after its 24-hour update period, but must appear in person if ineligible for payment because a warrant or BMV license-forfeiture or block notice plus fees may already exist.
Lawrence County Late Fee Conflict
Ironton's home page sets one deadline. It says an unpaid citation has 10 days after its date to be paid in full before a $25 late fee. Its separately published current fee order tells a different story. That order lists a $35 traffic late fee effective August 1, 2025. The two official sources conflict. Confirm the live amount with Ironton Municipal Court before paying rather than trusting either figure alone.
The court's online payment page is the source for payment terms. Its fee schedule is the source for published costs. A call to (740) 532-3062 settles the question for that court.
Two Records: Court File and Driver File
A court traffic record and an Ohio BMV driver record are two separate files with separate custodians. The court or clerk keeps the citation case. The Ohio BMV keeps the state licensing file. A CaseLook entry is not a BMV record, and a BMV record is not a court docket.
| Court case record | Ohio BMV driver record | |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | Municipal, mayor's, or Juvenile court and its clerk. | Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. |
| Purpose here | Citation, setting, plea or finding, disposition, fine, costs, payments, and balance. | Separate state licensing file. |
| Access route | Court docket or direct clerk request. | Ohio BMV's own record process. |
Lawrence County Failure To Appear
Miss a court date in Lawrence County and the stakes go up fast. Under R.C. 4510.22, a court can declare license forfeiture on certain traffic charges. That happens once you fail to appear. The court then reports that forfeiture to the Registrar after 30 days. From there the BMV takes over. It says a license-forfeiture suspension may call for an official court release plus a reinstatement fee. A warrant block can also stop you. It can block you from getting or renewing a driver license or vehicle registration.
So handle the traffic ticket at the source. Deal with the citation and the court date first. Then check the court record, and let the named Lawrence County court clerk confirm your status. If the citation requires an appearance, do not sit around waiting for a portal update. View the R.C. 4510.22 source to read the forfeiture rules the court works from.

The official law spells out consequences that no online status page will settle for you. That is why a call to the court beats watching a docket entry that may lag behind reality.
Traffic Record Copy Fees
Copy fees depend on which court holds the record. Ironton charges $3 per page for certified copies. Lawrence County Municipal lists 25 cents for a plain copy and $2 for a certified copy. Coal Grove varies its schedule by the type of matter, so confirm costs through its official portal or the court itself. The Common Pleas Clerk sets no posted traffic-record copy fee, so ask that office directly rather than reusing a municipal figure.
| Court | Amount | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Ironton Municipal | $115 | Published traffic court costs, not a countywide ticket price. |
| Ironton Municipal | $5 per mile over plus court costs | Published speed fine formula. |
| Ironton certified copy | $3 per page | Certified-copy schedule. |
| County Municipal | 25 cents / $2 | Plain copy / certified copy. |
| Coal Grove | Varies | Use the court's live schedule or confirmation. |
Lawrence County Traffic Payment Source
Lawrence County Municipal Court's payment route is one of several court-specific channels in the county. The official page behind the link shows the court's own payment details. Follow the local routing rule that comes with it. Confirm which court the citation names. Then use that court's docket, payment process, or clerk instead of a generic county search.

Paying online never erases the court date on the citation or the named court's own confirmation channel.
Lawrence County BMV Source
Why include the Ohio BMV at all? It marks the state-level custodian, separate from the court. It also explains the documented court-release step after a reported forfeiture. It is not a stand-in for the municipal or mayor's court record. Get current case information from the court first. View the Ohio BMV court-suspension source for the state agency's own explanation.

The BMV page drives home the split between two record keepers, while the court file remains the record for the citation case itself.
